How We Helped a Young 17 Year Old Girl With PCOS

A young school going girl, age 16 years, weight 77 kgs, height 5’6 and BMI 27.3 ( over-weight) approached us with the complaints of uncontrolled weight gain, irregular cycles, excessive facial hair and Acanthosis nigricans (it is a skin condition that causes a dark discoloration in body folds and creases)

All these issues made her socially inactive which caused her more stress and anxiety.

She had undergone various investigations to rule out the root cause of her issues. Initially her blood screening along with heavy metal scan was done. Test results revealed her CRP level was high 1.99 ( normal is <1.00) , HbA1C was on higher side 6.2% ( normal < 6%), insulin fasting was at peak 58.60 microU/mL ( normal 2.00-25.00). Triglyceride levels were elevated 188.20 mg/dL ( normal < 150). Thyroid antibody panel revealed her positive for thyroglobulin antibody 198 IU/mL (normal <60) and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO)    87.00 IU/mL( normal <60), also homocysteine levels were borderline high.

Hormone results showed high testosterone and DHEA. DHEA which is a marker for adrenal cortex function and disease was detected to be 574.50 i.e. extremely high (for women normal range is 200-400)

Her heavy metal tests revealed her low levels of iodine, lithium, and magnesium. Also zinc, aluminum, lead, silver, cadmium was high. Unsatisfactory cognitive function, intestinal assimilation, imbalanced hormonal state. She was found positive for EBV and Lyme.(pic 2,3)

Her treatment protocol included nutraceutical, Bio-identical hormonal therapy, therapies to cleanse gut, intravenous therapies and specific dietary guidelines.

In a span of 60-90 days her Acanthosis nigricans totally disappeared and over a year she lost 30 kgs body weight. On testing, massive drop in her thyroid antibodies was found from 198IU/mL to 82.02 IU/mL and for peroxidase level 87.0 IU/mL to 51.0 IU/mL. Her HbA1c was now 5.6% (normal range), her triglycerides reached to normal range. Hormones got balanced, her facial hair vanished. Lyme got negative and reduced load of  EBV antibody. The treatment turned out to be effective for this young school going girl.
